应用
富含脂质胆固醇的成年牛血清已被用作体外生成成红细胞的脂质成分之一。它也被用作分光光度法测定肌肉胆固醇级别的标准。
生化/生理作用
胆固醇显著影响磷脂膜的流动性和膜蛋白功能属性对磷脂具有冷凝作用。胆固醇-磷脂相互作用影响脂质双层的生理属性。胆固醇是胆汁酸、类固醇激素和维生素 D 的前体，不受控制级别血浆胆固醇水平可能导致心血管疾病的风险。
