生化/生理作用

甘氨酸是一种非必需氨基酸。钙离子通过细胞膜的内流是由甘氨酸门控通道介导的。甘氨酸参与卟啉、嘌呤和丝氨酸的合成。也可作为谷氨酸盐与 NMDA（N-甲基-D-天冬氨酸）受体结合的竞争性激动剂。在快速增殖的癌细胞中，由于对氨基酸的需求增加，甘氨酸合成可能增加。
