D-赤藓糖-4-磷酸(E4P)可作为底物,用于识别、区分和鉴定2-酮基-3-脱氧-6-磷酸半乳糖酸(KDPGal)醛缩酶和3-脱氧-D-阿拉伯-庚酮酸7-磷酸(DAH7P)合成酶,这两种酶用于启动微生物和植物中的莽草酸途径。可作为底物识别、区分和鉴定甘油醛-3-磷酸脱氢酶(GAPDH),这种酶参与致病微生物的表面抗原和毒力因子形成。 PLP(吡哆醛5′-磷酸)合成酶复合物负责从头合成恶性疟原虫中的维生素B6,在疟疾研究中,E4P可作为该复合物PfPdx1组分的抑制剂。
