Casein-peptone lecithin polysorbate broth (base) is a powdered medium recommended for general microbiological analysis. Casein enzymic hydrolysate provides the nitrogen, vitamins, amino acids, and carbon in the broth base. Casein peptone in the medium provides optimal conditions for the spore germination and regeneration of the damaged microorganisms. Lecithin and polysorbate 20 inactivate many antimicrobial compounds.

Casein-peptone lecithin polysorbate broth (base) is recommended for diluting samples of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and other raw materials or final products for determining the total microbial counts.
