文拉法辛是抗抑郁药。文拉法辛在人中的抗抑郁作用机制与其在中枢神经系统中神经递质活性的增强有关。文拉法辛是神经元 5-羟色胺和去甲肾上腺素再摄取的有效抑制剂，是多巴胺再摄取的弱抑制剂。在体外，文拉法辛对毒蕈碱、组胺能或 α-1 肾上腺素能受体无明显活性。文拉法辛不具有 MAO 抑制剂活性。
