Neutrophil peptide-1 (NP-1) exhibits antimicrobial activity. It also has a chemotactic function in dendritic cells. It has a role in the growth and metastasis of cancer cells. The protein acts as multifunctional co-receptor and interacts with various signaling cascades. NP-1 associates with epithelial growth factor (EGF) and its receptor (EGFR). It also interacts with hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and its receptor c-Met.
General description
Chemical structure: peptide
Defensins (α and β) are cationic peptides with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity that comprise an important arm of the innate immune system. The α-defensins which include neutrophil peptides-1, -2 and -3, (NP-1, NP-2 and NP-3) are distinguished from the β-defensins by the pairing of their three disulfide bonds. Neutrophil-1 (NP-1) is expressed as the C-terminal portion of an inactive precursor protein, which also contains a 19 amino acid N-terminal signal sequence and a 45 amino acid polypeptide. The protein contains a six-cysteine motif that forms three intra-molecular disulfide bonds. It is a transmembrane glycoprotein. Recombinant human NP-1 is a 3.4kDa protein containing 30 amino acid residues.

Physical form
Lyophilized with no additives.
Preparation Note
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.

The interaction between VEGF-A and its neuropilin (NRP) receptors mediates a number of important biological effects. NRP1 and the related molecule NRP2 are widely expressed on multiple tumour types and throughout the tumour vasculature, and are emerging as critical molecules
Neuropilin-1 is associated with clinicopathology of gastric cancer and contributes to cell proliferation and migration as multifunctional co-receptors.

The α-defensins (AD) present in synovial fluid have been regarded as constituting the most accurate periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) biomarker. The methods most commonly used for estimating AD as a biomarker are the qualitative Synovasure® PJI tests, based on the

The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between over-expression of the neuropilin 1 (NRP1) gene and growth, survival, and radio-sensitivity of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) cells. 3-[4,5-dimethylthylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyltetrazolium broide (MTT) and colony assays were then performed
