General description
7-Ketodeoxycholic acid, categorized as a oxo-5beta-cholanic acid, is a bile acid derivative and a metabolite resulting from the degradation of the primary bile acid, cholic acid, by intestinal bacteria. Bile acids, natural steroid amphipathic compounds formed through cholesterol oxidation in the liver, play a crucial role in regulating lipid metabolism.
