在应用抗体之前，胃蛋白酶用于福尔马林固定石蜡包埋（FFPE）组织切片的蛋白水解消化。在免疫组化（IHC）中，最常用的固定剂（如福尔马林）通过其内在交联掩盖组织抗原（细胞、膜和核）。这种掩盖导致 IHC（免疫组化）染色差或无染色。FFPE组织切片的胃蛋白酶消化改善了抗体对组织抗原的可及性。 即用型胃蛋白酶试剂，抗原回收剂已用于免疫组织化学中的抗原暴露。
