Protease from Bacillus sp. has been used for enzymatic antigen retrieval during immunohistochemical studies. It has also been used in protease treatment for the isolation of mitochondria from muscle specimens.

Protease is widely used in various industries such as the leather industry, food industry, and pharmaceutical industry. It is used in laundry detergents to remove protein-based stains from clothes. In addition, protease also helps in the wound healing process by removing necrotic materials. It also finds application in contact-lens enzyme cleaners and enzymatic deriders. Nargase, a protease isolated from Bacillus sp. is widely used for isolation of interfibrillar (IFM) mitochondria.
