General description

由Harry Eagle开发的最低必需培养基（MEM）是所有合成细胞培养基中使用最广泛的培养基之一。早期在尝试培养正常的哺乳动物成纤维细胞和HeLa细胞的某些亚型的过程中，显示它们具有Eagle's基础培养基（BME）无法满足的特定营养需求。随后在培养中使用这些细胞和其他细胞的研究表明，通过向BME中加入添加物以帮助更广泛的苛刻细胞的生长。
