General description
Myelin basic protein (MBP) comprises about 20% of the myelin sheath in neuronal axons. MBP is commonly used to induce autoimmune encephalomyelitis in animal models. MBP is unique in its high degree of post-translational modifications including multiple phosphorylation sites, deamidation of glutamine and acetylation of alanine as well as deimination of arginine to yield citrulline and methylation of arginine.
Application
Probably due to the presence of all known MBP isoforms and thus all potential immunological epitopes, this mouse MBP can be used to induce experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in mice, a condition resembling human multiple sclerosis. It was used for substrate recognition and channeling of monomodules from the pikromycin polyketide synthase. It was also used in molecular association and monolayer formation of soluble phthalocyanine compounds.

The mechanisms that regulate cytoskeletal remodeling during the transition between mitosis and interphase are poorly understood. In fission yeast the MOR pathway promotes actin polarization to cell tips in interphase, whereas the SIN signaling pathway drives actomyosin ring assembly and
