BS-I是一种四聚体凝集素，由两种类型的亚基A和B组成。存在由不同亚基组成的五种BS-I同工凝集素：BSI-B4、BSI-AB3、BSI-A2B2、BSI-A3B、以及BSI-A4。BSI-B4 是血型B特异的，其对末端α-D-半乳糖残基具有独特的亲和力，而BSI-A4 具有血型A特异性，其对末端N-乙酰基-α-D-半乳糖胺残基具有主要亲和力。

分析说明
凝集活性以 μg/mL表示，并且使用磷酸盐缓冲盐水（pH6.8）对1mg/mL溶液进行连续稀释液来测定，对于每种凝集素，所含有钙、镁和锰的浓度不同。该活性是在25℃孵育1小时后，对2％合适的红细胞悬浮液进行凝集所需的最低浓度。
