生化/生理作用

碘乙酰胺在肽测序中胱氨酸残基的烷基化试剂。它是活性位点上含有胱氨酸的酶的的一种不可逆抑制剂。它与组氨酸残基的反应速度要慢得多,但这种活性是核糖核酸酶抑制的原因。
碘乙酰胺(IAA)被用于抑制糖酵解,因为它能够不可逆地抑制糖酵解酶甘油醛-3-磷酸脱氢酶(GAPDH)。IAA用于研究半胱氨酸残基在酶催化和脑细胞转运过程中的作用。它可以与巯基乙醇和谷胱甘肽等低分子量硫醇化合物发生反应。IAN还可能阻断菠萝蛋白酶、组织蛋白酶C、梭状芽孢蛋白酶和羧肽酶P等酶。
