Cell division cycle 7 kinase (CDC7), a serine/threonine kinase, comprises two or three kinase insert domains and 11 kinase domains. It has a canonical bilobal kinase fold in its structure. The CDC7 gene is localized on human chromosome 1p22.2.

Cell division cycle 7 kinase (CDC7) mediates the phosphorylation of the minichromosome maintenance protein 2 (MCM2). Elevated levels of Cdc7 are observed in tumors. The inhibition of Cdc7 suppresses invasiveness and tumor growth in glioblastoma. The presence of dumbbell forming factor 4 (DBF4) is crucial for Cdc7 kinase activity. Cdc7 is an S phase-promoting kinase and favors DNA replication Cdc7 is also involved in chromosome separation and transactions. It inhibits collagen uptake and its silencing results in an upsurge of collagen uptake.
