Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Biochem/physiol Actions
The protein encoded by the gene TRIM5 (tripartite motif containing 5) functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase that is involved in retroviral restriction. It prevents infection by HIV-1 (human immunodeficiency virus type 1) post-invasion of the host cytoplasm. It participates in signal transduction and promotes innate immune signaling.

General description
The gene TRIM5 (tripartite motif containing 5) encodes a RING (really interesting new gene) domain-E3 ubiquitin ligase belonging to the TRIM family of proteins, the members of which contain an N-terminal tripartite motif made up of a RING domain, one or two B-boxes, and a coiled coil.
