SAFB (scaffold attachment factor B) is a multifunctional, nuclear matrix protein belonging to the SAFB family. It is involved in various cellular processes including cell growth, apoptosis, and stress response. It plays a vital role in chromatin organization, transcriptional control, and RNA processing. Its C-terminal domain possesses potential tumor suppressive characteristics. It suppresses transcriptional signals through the direct promoter-binding or indirect transcription factor interactions. It also acts as an estrogen receptor corepressor. It inhibits the expression of estrogen receptor in combination with SAFB2 through the C-terminal binding.
