Growth arrest specific 7 (GAS7) is expressed in cerebellar Purkinje neuron cells. It has N-terminal region identical to synapsins Ia and Ib and C-terminal proline-rich region. The Gas7 gene is mapped to human chromosome 17p13. It belongs to pombe Cdc15 homology (PCH) family.

Growth arrest specific 7 (GAS7) is involved in the development of neurons. It mediates generation of osteoblasts from human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). It plays a key role in microtubule stability. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in GSA7 gene impacts brain development and is implicated in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. Translocation of myeloid/lymphoid leukemia (MLL) gene with GAS7 is observed in acute myeloid leukemia.
