MAGEC1 (MAGE family member C1) is a cosmid containing gene. It encodes a putative cancer/testis antigen (CTA) of long chain amino acids. It exhibits strict tumoral specificity. Its expression is silent in normal tissues except testis but its high presence has been reported in malignant plasma cells. It induces cellular immunity of melanoma cells. Studies have suggested that MAGEC1 gene has clinicopathological importance for melanoma immunotherapy.
