Examples of drugs transported by OCT1 include metformin, amantadine, pramipexole, and, possibly, levodopa.

It is used as a probe to determine the roles of solute carrier family 22 (organic cation transporter), member 1 in the transport of small organic cations including a variety of important drugs.
