CLIC2 codes for an intracellular chloride ion channel protein. CLIC2 forms pH-dependent chloride channels in in vitro conditions. Its chloride channel functions are modulated by pH levels and redox status. It interacts with skeletal ryanodine receptor (RyR1).

CLIon Channel 2 encodes a protein that is detected in fetal liver and adult skeletal muscle tissue. CLIon Channel2 maps to the candidate region on chromosome X for incontinentia pigmenti.
