General description
Potassium bicarbonate (Potassium hydrogen carbonate) is an inexpensive, nontoxic base. It is used to regulate pH or as a reagent.
Application
Potassium bicarbonate is used:
- In the synthesis of cyclic ammonium cation N,N-dimethyl-3,5-dimethylpiperidinium (DMDMP).
- As a base in the preparation of glycerol carbonate and glycidol from 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol (HAL).

Bicarbonate has been implicated in bone health in older subjects on acid-producing diets in short-term studies. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of potassium bicarbonate and its components on changes in bone resorption and calcium excretion

High sodium chloride (NaCl) intake can induce low-grade metabolic acidosis (LGMA) and may thus influence bone and protein metabolism. We hypothesized that oral potassium bicarbonate (KHCO(3)) supplementation may compensate for NaCl-induced, LGMA-associated bone resorption and protein losses. Eight healthy male
