三氯乙酸(TCA)可作为催化剂合成：
- β-烯胺酮，通过1,3-二羰基化合物与胺的缩合反应。
- 6-氨基-3-甲基-1,4-diphenyl-1,4-二氢吡喃[2,3-c]吡唑-5-腈衍生物，通过乙酸乙酯、苯肼、丙二腈、芳醛的四成分缩合反应.
- 四氢苯并[a]吨酚-11-酮，通过醛、2-萘酚和二酮的三成分反应。
传统上用于沉淀蛋白质。用于通过定量沉淀测定蛋白质浓度。用作脱钙剂和显微镜样品的固定剂。
