Application

Casein hydrolysate has various applications in sterility testing media or biochemical characterization as it is utilized by a wide variety of microorganisms. It can also be used in the production of certain antibiotics, toxins, bacteriocins, and enzymes. It is especially suited for the large-scale cultivation of Diphteria bacteria, Tetanus bacilli and Streptococci. In industrial fermentations it favors a high yield of biomass, particularly for certain yeasts and fastidious bacilli.

General description

Casein hydrolysate is commonly used in microbiology as a nitrogen source and a supplement in microbial culture media. It is produced by the digestion of casein with hydrochloric acid and contains a complex mixture of peptides and amino acids. Casein hydrolysate is particularly useful in media formulations for the growth of fastidious bacteria that require specific nutrients or additional growth factors.
