Rac1是RhoGTPase亚家族（Rac1-Rac4）的成员，该亚家族可将来自G偶联蛋白受体（GPCR）、整联蛋白和生长因子受体的细胞外信号转导至调节多种信号通路的效应分子。尽管Rac1支持MAP激酶途径的激活和基因激活，但它’最重要的功能还包括对细胞骨架结构的调节。Rac与Rho（应力纤维的调节子）和Cdc42（丝状伪足的调节子）一起，可调节粘着斑（FA）复合物的形成。膜皱纹和片状脂溢有助于实现与细胞附着和运动有关的重要细胞功能。
