Pentobarbital is a short-acting barbiturate and hypnotic sold under the trade name Nembutal® and approved for treatment of seizures and preoperative sedation. Also known as pentobarbitone, the sodium salt of pentobarbital is used as an anesthetic in veterinary medicine.
