General description
Bis(monoacylglycerol) phosphate (BMP) is a phospholipid, containing two-phosphate linked fatty acid esterified glycerol molecule. It is present in late endosome, majorly in intraluminal vesicles (ILVs) and is hydrolyzed by BMP hydrolase. BMP accounts to 15% of total organelle lipids.
Application
14:0 Hemi BMP (S,R) is suitable to use as ISTDs (internal standards) for the extraction of phospholipids.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Bis(monoacylglycerol)phosphate (BMP) plays a key role in cargo sorting and protein and lipid trafficking. The levels of BMP is elevated in lysosomal storage disorders (LSD) including Wolman disease, Niemann Pick disease and neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses. It is resistant to degradation by the enzyme, acid phospholipase.

What are the components that control the assembly of subcellular organelles in eukaryotic cells? Although membranes can clearly be distorted by cytosolic factors, very little is known about the intrinsic mechanisms that control the biogenesis, shape, and organization of organellar
