The silica shell offers a versatile surface for attaching functional groups or creating hydrophobic & hydrophilic surfaces. The presence of silica shell on the surface of gold nanoparticles also allows their easier deposition onto substrates and incorporation into different solvents, resins, and curable materials while protecting them from aggregation and preserving their optical properties.
