BMImI可用作染料敏化光化学电池中的非挥发性电解质。它还可以用作稳定剂/促进剂/反应介质,用于过渡金属催化的β-氨基醇和2-氨基苯酚的双相氧化环羰基化反应,形成相应的2-恶唑烷酮。
