四氟硼酸四丁基铵被用作合成一系列芳基酮的电解质。
四丁基四氟硼酸铵（TBATFB）是相转移催化剂。它可以通过30％四氟硼酸水溶液与40％氢氧化四丁基铵水溶液反应合成。四丁基四氟硼酸铵可充当电解质，抑制烷基硫代硫酸盐在金上自组装。

四丁基四氟硼酸铵可用于以下研究：
- 作为伏安法测定Δ(9)-四氢大麻酚(Δ(9)-THC)的支持电解质。
- 合成生物相关的大环内酯Sansalvamide A。
- 作为循环伏安法测定5,10,15,20-四[3-(3-三氟甲基)苯氧基]卟啉的氧化和还原电位的支持电解质。
- 与1,10-菲咯啉制备1:1加合物。
- 用于在水溶液中制备其他四丁基铵盐。
- 作为合成导电性聚(噻吩)的电解质添加剂。
