General description
Polyisobutylene (PIB) is an elastomer and plasticizer. It exhibits good gas permeability, thermal, oxidative and chemical stability. Films of PIB can be synthesized by RF sputtering, whereas branched PIB can be synthesized from 4-(1-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)styrene -co-styrene (HMESt-co-St) as inimer.
Application
PIB may be used to prepare polymers blends with isotactic polypropylene (iPP).

This paper is the first report of electrospinning neat polyisobutylene-based thermoplastic elastomers. Two generations of these materials are investigated: a linear poly(styrene-b-isobutylene-b-styrene) (L_SIBS) triblock copolymer and a dendritic poly(isobutylene-b-p-methylstyrene) (D_IB-MS), also a candidate for biomedical applications. Cross-polarized optical microscopy shows
