General description

Silylation can be performed by adding N-Methyl-N-(trimethylsilyl)trifluoroacetamide (MTFA) during analysis of fluorometabolites via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).[1]

Application

Addition of Trimethylchlorosilane aids in the derivatization of amides, secondary amines and hindered hydroxy groups. Most volatile of the TMS derivatives often elutes at the solvent front of the GC.
