Application

MDL 28170 has been used as a calpain inhibitor:
  • to study its effects on neuroinflammation and necroptosis in rat model of cardiac arrest[1]
  • to analyze its effects on the degradation of neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in beef semimembranosus muscle[2]
  • to study its protective effects against traumatic brain injury and survival of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in rat brain[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

MDL 28170 exhibits neuroprotective effects against spinal cord injury, focal cerebral ischemia, and neonatal hypoxia-ischemia in rats.[4] It also shows anti-inflammatory and anti-neurodegenerative properties.[3] MDL 28170 crosses the blood-brain barrier and penetrates readily through the cell membranes.[1]
MDL 28170 is a potent cell permeable calpain I and II inhibitor; reduces capsaicin-mediated cell death in cultured dorsal root ganglion neurons. Reduced occurrence of apoptosis in H2O2 and A23187 treated PC12 cells. γ-secretase-inhibitor.
