Application

L-Arginine has been used:
  • as a Roswell park memorial institute medium (RPMI) media component in the isolation and culture of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs)[1]
  • as a RPMI media component for tissue culture[2]
  • in DMEM medium for the identification and quantification of phosphorylation sites by stable isotope labeling by amino acids in cell culture (SILAC) and LCMS/MS[3]

Biochem/physiol Actions

L-Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid, that play a vital role in the production of nitric oxide. It acts as a precursor for the synthesis of polyamines, agmatine and urea. L-Arginine is usually essential in children and non-essential in adults.[4]
Substrate of nitric oxide synthase, which is converted to citrulline and nitric oxide (NO). Induces insulin release by a nitric oxide-dependent mechanism.
