General description

Skeletal muscle functions as an endocrine organ by secreting myokines—proteins that regulate muscle growth, metabolism, and inter-organ communication. This panel—BDNF, Erythropoietin (EPO), FGF-21, Follistatin-like Protein 1 (FSTL1), IL-6, IL-15, Irisin, LIF, Myostatin/GDF8, Oncostatin M (OSM), Osteocrin (OSTN)/Musclin, and Osteonectin/SPARC—captures key indicators of muscle activity, inflammation, and metabolic regulation. The MILLIPLEX® Mouse Myokine Panel enables multiplexed quantification of these biomarkers in mouse serum or plasma, supporting research in exercise physiology, metabolic disease, and muscle biology.

Application

MILLIPLEX® Qualified assays undergo rigorous assay development, verification, and Quality Control testing to achieve optimal performance. Simultaneously analyze up to 12 analytes in mouse serum, plasma, or cell culture supernatants.

Analytes Included: Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), Erythropoietin (EPO), Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 (FGF-21), Follistatin-like Protein 1 (FSTL1), IL-6, IL-15, Irisin, Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF), Myostatin (MSTN/GDF8), Oncostatin M (OSM), Osteocrin (OSTN/Musclin), Osteonectin (SPARC) Note: Substantial amounts of BDNF are stored in circulating platelets and subsequently released upon platelet activation. Therefore, platelet-poor plasma is critical to ensure accurate measurement of circulating levels of BDNF. Erythropoeitin (EPO) is for tissue culture samples only and cannot be combined with other analytes in this panel when measuring serum or plasma.

Assay Characteristics: Refer to assay protocol for details on cross-reactivity, sensitivity, precision, and accuracy.
