Gene Information

human ... IL3(3562)

General description

IL3 (interleukin 3) is a haematopoietic growth factor, the gene for which is localized to human chromosome locus 5.
Recombinant human IL-3 is a 15.0 kDa globular protein containing 133 amino acid residues.

Biochem/physiol Actions

IL3 (interleukin 3) promotes the survival, proliferation and differentiation of haematopoietic progenitor cells. It also functions as an activator of basophils thus, resulting in significant increase in antigen and IgE-mediated release of cytokines and other mediators. Certain variants in this gene confer protection against malaria attack, and thus, this gene might play a role in the pathophysiology of falciparum malaria. SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) rs40401 in this gene and smoking have a positive correlation with asthma in Japanese women. IL3 is involved in brain development and has a direct influence on the proliferation and survival of neural progenitor cell population, thereby also controlling human brain volume.

Physical form

Lyophilized with no additives.

Reconstitution

Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a stabilizer (example 5% Trehalose) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.

Impaired megakaryocyte maturation and insufficient platelet production have been shown to participate in the pathogenesis of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Our previous study demonstrated that low expression of tumour necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) in megakaryocytes contributed to impaired platelet production
