General description

Anti-C1S Antibody detects endogenous levels of total C1S protein.
The C1S (complement C1s) gene is mapped to human chromosome 12p13 and codes for a subcomponent of C1 complex of the classical pathway.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human C1S.

Immunogen Range: 541-590

Biochem/physiol Actions

Activation of C1s (complement C1s) along with C1r triggers complement cascade. C1s is responsible for the cleavage of complement component C4 and C2, which is necessary for complete activation of complement system. Studies determined that C1s specifically acts on Val or Leu at P(3) and Ala or Gly residues at P(2) positions. The C1S gene is known to be associated with lupus nephritis, with low gene expression observed in mice.
