General description

Dopamine-β-hydroxylase (DBH) is found in the nuclei of noradrenergic and dopaminergic neurons. The DBH gene is mapped on the human chromosome at 9q34.2.

Immunogen

Recombinant fragment corresponding to a region within amino acids 8 and 320 of Dopamine beta Hydroxylase (Uniprot ID#P09172)

Application

Anti-DBH antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunohistochemistry (1:200) (1:1000).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Dopamine-β-hydroxylase (DBH) protein plays a role in the conversion of dopamine to noradrenaline. This protein is implicated in various disorders such as Huntington′s chorea, hypertension, Parkinson′s, and smoking disorders. DBH protein is also implicated in heart failure and mental disorders like depression, Tourette syndrome, and schizophrenia. Lower levels of DHB plasma are seen in patients with bipolar disorders and unipolar psychotic depression. Higher levels of DBH plasma are observed in patients with severe depression.
