Application

For use in cell culture applications for the study of prostaglandin regulated cell signaling and gene regulation.
Prostaglandin E1 has been used in maintaining mice proximal tubule,[1] and NRK-52E, a rat renal epithelial cell line.[2]

Biochem/physiol Actions

Prostaglandins mediate vasodilation and vasoconstriction, the E series of prostaglandin is a highly effective vasodilator. It is known to efficiently cause erythema. Prostaglandin E1 is considered as a potent pyretic factor, and acts through cerebral ventricles.[3] Prostaglandin E1 is useful to prolong cardiovascular function in new born suffering from ductus-dependant congenital heart disease until surgery.[4]
