Biochem/physiol Actions

IL-17, initially known as CTLA-8, is a T cell-expressed polypeptide that appears to be involved in the regulation of the hematopoietic system. IL-17 has been shown to induce IL-6, IL-8, and G-CSF production by fibroblasts; all of these cytokines have demonstrated effects on hematopoiesis.

Physical form

Lyophilized with no additives.

Analysis Note

  • The biological activity of human IL-17 is measured by its ability to induce IL-6 production using NHDF cells.
  • Biological activity is also determined by the dose-dependent induction of IL-6 in primary human foreskin fibroblast. The expected ED50 is < 2.0 ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of > 5 x 105 units/mg.
