General description

Glucuronic acid is one of the component of xylan backbone, a hemicellulose present in plant cell wall.[1]

Application

D-Glucuronic acid has been used:
  • in in vitro human digestion model[2]
  • as a fibrous cellulose powder, to test the feeding preference among experimental termites[3]
  • as a standard to quantify glucuronic acid in urine sample[4]

Biochem/physiol Actions

In humans, glucuronic acid conjugation with steroidal compounds and drugs is an important step in phase II metabolic reactions. This influences the biotransformation process of the compound.[5]
