General description

Methylcyclopentane, a naphthene hydrocarbon, has a tertiary carbon atom and also has greater reactivity towards chemical agents like sulphuric acid, fuming nitric acid, etc.

Application

Methylcyclopentane was used to determine qualitative and quantitative interpretation of solvophobic effects in methyl cellosolve and propylene glycol, reading values of Gibbs free energy of solution and solvation.
