General description
Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is the main type of glycoprotein antibody found in human serum, secreted by the B cells. It is found in blood and comprises four polypeptide chains, made of two identical 50 kDa γ heavy (H) chains and two identical 25 kDa κ or λ light (L) chains. These chains are inter-linked by di-sulfide bonds. IgG exists in four isotypes IgG1, IgG2, IgG3 and IgG4. IgG has the longest serum half-life compared to other immunoglobulins.
Specificity
Specific for human IgG gamma chain. The cross-reactivities of anti-human IgG (gamma) antibody are tested in an ELISA. Minimal cross-reactivity to light chains.
The reagent is an affinity purified antibody from goat. The purified antibody is conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and stabilized in buffer.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Immunoglobulin G (IgG) initiates the classical pathway of the complement system. It neutralizes virus particles and toxins. IgG plays a vital role in antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and might be associated with allergy. Maternal IgG is transferred to the fetus through the placenta that is crucial for the immune defense of the neonate against infections. Digestion of IgG by papain results in the production of fragment antigen-binding (Fab). Pepsin digestion of IgG leads to the generation of fragment crystallizable (Fc). Levels of IgG in severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV)-2 infected patients can be used as a potential tool to evaluate the severity and prognosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In North America, the Lyme disease agent, Borrelia burgdorferi, is commonly transmitted by the black-legged tick, Ixodes scapularis. Tick saliva facilitates blood feeding and enhances pathogen survival and transmission. Here, we demonstrate that I. scapularis complement C1q-like protein 3 (IsC1ql3), a
