Sex determining region Y-box 2 (SOX-2) is a stem cell marker and a transcription factor expressed in basal cells of the prostate, myoepithelial cells of the breast, squamous epithelium, and fetal neural cells. Recent studies show that SOX-2 is highly expressed in some human cancers such as such as prostate, lung, breast, and ovarian cancers.
