Neuroscience Multiplex Assays: Make More Connections in Neuroscience Research

Researchers use neuroscience-related biomarkers to gain more insights into the nervous system. Neuroscience multiplex assays, such as MILLIPLEX® multiplex assays, provide a deeper understanding of the underlying processes of neurodegenerative diseases, neurological disorders, and neuropeptide/neurohormone signaling.

What Are Biomarkers of Neurological Disorders?

A biomarker of a neurological disorder is, by definition, differentially expressed between a normal subject’s nervous system and that of a subject bearing a neurological disorder. Traditionally, neuroscience biomarkers could only be detected after a subject already exhibits cognitive decline or other symptoms of disease. However, recently, sensitive assays have shown biomarkers to be present even in advance of other symptoms. Examples of neuroscience-related biomarkers are described in Table 1.

Neuroscience Multiplex Assays

No single biomarker has the power to give researchers a complete picture of nervous system functions such as perception, cognition, motor, and homeostatic control, or of disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
