General description
Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), generally known as baking powder, is commonly used as a base in many organic reactions. Recently, it has also been used in organic electronic devices as an electron injection layer material.
Application
Sodium bicarbonate can be used:
- As a catalyst or a promoter in the acetylation of phenols and primary alcohols using acetic anhydride.
- In the synthesis of sugar orthoesters.
- In the asymmetric isomerization studies of cyclic dienes.
