General description
Petroleum ether, a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons, is majorly used as a laboratory solvent. It mainly contains pentane and hexane. Petroleum ether has properties similar to ether and is used in cosmetics, detergents, paint, and varnish, etc.
Application
Petroleum ether can be used:
- As a solvent in API production.
- As a chromatography solvent for product extraction, and purification of non-polar compounds.
