General description

4-Methyl-2-pentanone (methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK)) is an organic solvent widely used in various industrial applications. It is also used in gums, resins, paints, varnishes, lacquers, and nitrocellulose.

Application

MIBK can be used:      
  • As a reactant in the preparation of methylpentanes by catalytic hydrogenation using Pt/ZSM-5 as a catalyst.
  •  As a solvent in the pharmaceutical, coating, and mining industries.       
  • In the manufacture of rubber antiozonants.
