Buprofezin― a thiadiazine insecticide, inhibits chitin synthesis and acts as a molting inhibitor and growth regulator. It is a broad spectrum and non-systemic insecticide, that gets activated by contact and ingestion. Buprofezin inhibits molting in insect larvae and nymphs, subsequently leading to their death. It is used against beetles, leafhoppers, plant hoppers, and whiteflies among other insects for a variety of crops, vegetables, and fruits.
Buprofezin is approved for use in the European Union as a plant protection agent in the market according to the Commission Directive 2011/6/EU of 20th January 2011 repealing the Council Directive 91/414/EEC. The maximum residue level (MRL) allowed for the presence of buprofezin in plant- and animal-based products is 0.01 mg/kg as per the EU Reg 2019/91.
Buprofezin has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Program for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
Buprofezin CRM may also find the following uses:

  • Development of a high-performance liquid chromatography-diode-array detector (HPLC-DAD) method for simultaneous analysis of buprofezin, dinobuton, and chlorothalonil in various biological, food, and environmental samples
  • Determining metolachlor and buprofezin in natural water samples by thermochemically-induced fluorescence derivatization (TIFD) method
  • To study the dissipation of acetamiprid and buprofezin in paddy grain, straw, and soil samples, in addition to their residue analysis by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection
  • Multi-residue analysis of 42 pesticides in six marijuana samples by QuEChERS extraction followed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) determination
  • Quantification of 57 pesticide residues in tomato samples by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry method
  • Simultaneous determination of 60 pesticide residues in various fruit and vegetable samples by using solid-phase extraction (SPE) for sample preparation and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography/time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC/TOF-MS) for measurement
