Tralomethrin is a synthetic Type II pyrethroid insecticide that contains an a-cyano group and shows more neurotoxicity than Type I insecticides. It acts by modifying the kinetics of the voltage-gated sodium channels present in the axonal membranes of neurons. In addition, the voltage-gated calcium and chloride channels and GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) receptors are the secondary target sites for tralomethrin.
Tralomethrin is not approved for use in the European Union (EU) as per the Commission Regulation (EC) No 2076/2002 of 20th November 2002 as a plant protection agent under Regulation (EC) No. 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/EEC. But a default maximum residue limit (MRL) of 0.01 mg/kg is applicable for its presence in products of plant origin according to Art 18(1)(b) Reg 396 / 2005.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
The tralomethrin CRM may also be used as below:

  • Develop and validate a method relying on the use of a vibrational shaker and QuEChERS-based extraction, accompanied by LC-MS/MS detection to detect 22 antiparasitic drug residues in 36 fish tissue samples
  • Analysis of fat obtained from different animals for the presence of 1 pyrethrin and 18 pyrethroid residues by UHPLC-MS/MS
  • Multi-residue analysis of 379 pesticides in human serum by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • Quantification of 19 pyrethroid residues in 262 tea and 209 peeled orange samples by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-QqQ-MS/MS) and their detection by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-Q-ToF/MS)
  • Simultaneous determination of 12 pyrethroid insecticide residues in water, sediment, and milk samples by gas chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (GC/MS/MS) in two different ionization modes of electron ionization (EI) and negative chemical ionization (NCI)
  • Multi-residue determination of 17 pesticide residues in brown rice, onion, and spinach samples by supercritical fluid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (SFC-MS/MS)
