General description
Iprovalicarb is a systematic fungicide with protective, eradicative, and curative activity against many oomycete pathogens. It is a mixture of (SS)-and (SR)-diastereoisomers that belong to the chemical class of amino acid amidocarbamate. Iprovalicarb is widely used for the control of potato late blight and downy mildew in many crops and shows excellent fungicidal activity against Plasmopara viticola, Peronospora vicia, Phytophthora sp., Alternaria sp. in grapes, potatoes, tomatoes, tobacco, and vegetables. The fungicide acts on the cell wall interrupting cellulose biosynthesis in pathogens.
According to Regulation (EC) 1107/2009, repealing Council Directive 91/414/EEC, iprovalicarb is approved for use in European Union (EU). The maximum residue level (MRL) following Reg. (EU) 777/2013 is set from 0.01 mg/kg to 2 mg/kg for products of plant and animal origin. ADI and AOEL of 0.015 mg/kg bw/day is established for iprovalicarb following Reg. (EU) 2016/147.
Iprovalicarb has to be monitored in the Multiannual Control Programme for Pesticides Residues (MACP), run within the EU and EFTA in/on products of plant origin.
Application
The iprovalicarb CRM may also find following uses:
- To investigate the level of iprovalicarb resistance in Phytophthora infestans and the potential risk of resistance to iprovalicarb evolving in the future
- Development of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of iprovalicarb residues in agricultural and environmental samples
- To analyze iprovalicarb residues in cabbage samples by high-performance liquid chromatography
- To investigate the fate of indoxacarb, iprovalicarb, and boscalid residue in grapes and wine, after field treatment and during the winemaking process, by gas chromatography-ion trap mass spectrometry (GC-ITMS) analysis
- To determine the baseline sensitivity of P. capsici to iprovalicarb by measuring mycelial growth
- To develop and validate a method for the estimation of iprovalicarb residue in tomato fruit and grape berries and to study the persistence behavior of iprovalicarb in the selected food crops
